Care of Your Child’s Teeth

Teaching your kids the right way to take care of their smile is very important. We would be glad to give both you & your child the oral hygiene education you need in order to keep you clean & cavity-free.

Begin daily brushing as soon as the child’s first tooth erupts. A pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste can be used after the child is old enough not to swallow it. By age 4 or 5, children should be able to brush their own teeth twice a day, with supervision, until about age 7, in order to make sure they are doing a thorough job. However, each child’s progress will be different. Proper brushing removes plaque from the inner, outer & chewing surfaces. When teaching children to brush, place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle. Start along the gum line with a soft bristle brush in a gentle circular motion. Brush the outer surfaces of every tooth, both upper & lower. Repeat the same method on the inside surfaces & chewing surfaces of all the teeth. Finish by brushing the tongue to help freshen breath & remove bacteria.

Flossing removes plaque between the teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach. Flossing should begin when any two teeth touch. You may wish to floss the child’s teeth until he or she can do it alone. Use about 18 inches of floss, winding most of it around the middle fingers of both hands. Hold the floss lightly between the thumbs & forefingers. Use a gentle, back-&-forth motion to guide the floss between the teeth. Curve the floss into a C-shape & slide it into the space between the gum & tooth until you feel resistance. Gently scrape the floss against the side of the tooth. Repeat this procedure on each tooth. Don’t forget behind the four teeth in the back!

These oral hygiene tips are important, especially for your kids. By educating them at a younger age, they’ll have the correct knowledge to provide them with a lifetime of excellent dental health! Call us for your appointment & consultation today!

Space Maintainers For Children

If a primary molar is lost early, a space maintainer will be necessary to hold that space open until the permanent tooth is ready to come through. In some cases, the space maintainer may be needed for as long as ten years. Without space maintainers, crowding & the need for braces is almost always the end result.

Children’s Sealants

Sealants are highly effective in preventing tooth decay on the biting surfaces of chewing teeth. A sealant is a simple procedure in which we place a clear or tooth-colored acrylic “coating” onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves where decay is most likely to begin. This technique is usually done on permanent molars as soon as they have erupted enough to be sealed. Sometimes, primary molars have grooves deep enough to require sealing as well. At less than half the cost of conventional filling, without any anesthetics or drilling, sealants are one of the most important preventive tools Branchview Dental Care offers. Call us at Branchview Dental Care to schedule your appointment today!

Infant Dental Care

It’s never too early to begin providing your child with dental care, especially when you consider that half of children ages 5 through 9 have already had at least one cavity. That’s why we recommend an oral health consultation visit by age 1. Our goal is to establish a relationship of trust & gentleness with your infant, so we’re happy to treat your child while he or she sits in your lap. Beginning dental care early is a great way to ensure optimal dental health for many years to come!

Children’s Tooth Decay & Repair

For small cavities in primary molars, simple fillings may be all that is necessary. However, in the case of large cavities, enough of the tooth may have been lost that a filling may not be enough. In cases like this, a pediatric stainless steel crown is placed to maintain the tooth & its space-maintaining function until the tooth would normally be lost. Primary front teeth may be restored with tooth-colored filling material or a stainless steel crown with tooth-colored material as a facing to improve the appearance. The severity of the tooth decay will help us determine which treatment is best.

Regular Dental Hygiene Visits For Your Child

Dental check-ups on a regular basis are a very important part of maintaining your child’s teeth & establishing good habits for diet & home care. The frequency of your visits to Branchview Dental Care is based upon your child’s needs & oral health. During your visit, we will update the medical history, check your child’s teeth for cavities, review oral hygiene instructions & diet & evaluate your child for developing orthodontic needs. Fluoride treatments are provided & home fluoride rinses or tablets are prescribed when needed & appropriate.

Insurance

At Branchview Dental Care, we strive to make your dental care as hassle-free as possible. Accordingly, we accept most dental insurance & will gladly submit your insurance claims in a manner that will maximize your benefits. Just be sure to bring the necessary information with you on your first visit & we’ll take care of the rest!

Dental & Restorative Implants

Dental implants are essentially permanent, attached teeth that replace partials, bridges or dentures. A titanium implant is permanently attached to your bone & a prosthetic tooth (crown) is attached to the implant. Implants are preferred to bridges because they can improve your bite without damaging neighboring teeth (like a bridge might). Treatment can be finished in three to five visits over the space of about 3 to 12 months.

Emergency Dental Care

We recognize that dental emergency situations do arise, & we will do our best to respond to your problem promptly. Whether it is something as simple as a tooth filling or a complicated procedure, we can provide you with assistance. Please give us a call.

  • Chipped, broken teeth can be repaired
  • Missing teeth can be replaced
  • Gaps between teeth can be closed
  • Gummy smiles can be recontoured
  • Stained, discolored teeth can be whitened
  • & so much more!

Oral Cancer Screening

Early detection is key in the battle against cancer, & this is no different with oral cancer. Even if you don’t smoke, keep in mind that 25% of oral-cancer diagnoses are for non-smokers. It’s important that every patient receive a simple & pain-free exam. Remember that when caught early, oral cancer has an 80 to 90% survival rate. So don’t put off your examination another minute!

Preventive Dentistry

This includes our regular dental hygiene visits, sealants, mouthguards & patient/parent education. We place a high emphasis on sealants, which are effective in preventing tooth decay on the biting surfaces of chewing teeth. This plastic coating, which is clear or tooth-colored, is applied to deep pits & grooves. This seals them in the areas where decay is most likely to begin. At less than half the cost of conventional fillings, without anesthetics or drilling, sealants are one of the most important preventive services we offer.

Crowns

Crowns cover & support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left. They can be used to attach bridges, protect weak teeth from breaking, or restore teeth that have already broken. A crown is a good way to cover a tooth that is discolored or badly shaped as well, or to cover a dental implant. A crown can make your tooth stronger & improve its appearance.

Fillings

At Branchview Dental Care, we offer tooth-colored fillings. Tooth-colored material can be used both as fillings & to repair defects in the teeth. Because they are tooth-colored, it’s difficult to distinguish them from natural teeth. We have been placing tooth-colored fillings for years, making us very proficient with the techniques required for long-term success.

Healthy Gums Lead to a Healthy Body

Continued research has linked gum disease to diabetes, heart disease & low birth weight in babies. In an effort to rid your teeth of the plaque & tartar that causes gum disease (gingivitis) & tooth decay, your dental hygienist may suggest a regimen of care that requires more frequent visits to our office. These visits are recommended to remove the offending plaque & tartar.

TMD (Jaw Pain) Therapy

Commonly misdiagnosed or overlooked, a subtle misalignment in the temporomandibular joint can be a common, significant source of head & neck pain. If you have frequent & severe head or neck pain, you owe it to yourself to investigate our doctors’ life-changing approach to correcting these TMJ problems.

Call us today for your TMJ consultation!

Digital X-rays

We offer in-office digital x-rays for your convenience. Digital x-rays are computer-generated images that require up to 90% less radiation than with conventional film-type x-rays. Instead of using the traditional silver-oxide x-ray film that must be developed & then fixed in caustic & environmentally damaging solutions, the new system takes pictures via a small electronic sensor & instantaneously transmits a picture of the tooth onto the video monitor in the treatment room. Therefore, we can see your teeth & surrounding structures immediately.

Purified Water

Our doctors understand your concern about water quality & the importance of keeping you & your family healthy. For this reason, we utilize bottled water during our dental procedures. By using the purified bottled water in dental procedures, we are able to get rid of any substances that may compromise the health of our clients. The safety, health & care of our patients are our top priorities. This is just another way to show our patients that we care!

Intraoral Cameras

Ever been curious about what goes on during your dental care visits? With our intraoral cameras, you don´t have to be curious anymore! We can take digital photos or videos of your teeth. With the images produced by the intraoral camera, patients can see each of their teeth & dentists can indicate problems such as broken teeth, plaque, decay, gum disease, defective fillings & so on. Using an intraoral camera allows patients to better understand their dental needs by seeing what the dentist sees & then having it explained.

Sealants & Fluoride Treatments

Tooth decay, otherwise known as cavities, can be a significant problem for children as well as adults. There are numerous factors that lead to tooth decay & there are many ways to prevent it. With the use of sealants, we can cover the deep grooves in your back teeth & extend their life while helping to prevent cavities.

Periodontics

Periodontal (gum) disease can lead to more than just an unsightly smile—it can cause loss of teeth & eventually, if left untreated, other more serious health problems. Called gingivitis in its early stages, periodontal disease is caused by excessive toxic bacteria (found in plaque) that attack your mouth’s soft tissues. Early warning signs of this disease include red, swollen, or bleeding gums. If caught early, we can help you reverse the damage. If detected late, we can use one of the many effective restorative dentistry procedures to restore your mouth to its healthy, beautiful state. Let our doctors help you keep your teeth & gums strong & disease-free with regular examinations & cleanings.

Family Dentistry

We offer dentistry for the entire family. We understand that adults & children have different needs & we address them all. Adults want the best technology, the most informed doctors & the highest-quality care, while kids want to be comfortable & respected. Since we have extensive experience working with both adults & children, we can make the dental experience more enjoyable for everyone.

One Day Inlays/Onlays by Cerec®

Porcelain inlays & onlays are an excellent, conservative solution to cavity pain, reduced chewing strength, & general degeneration of the back teeth. Virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, inlays & onlays discreetly restore teeth to an optimal state of health. They resemble natural teeth so closely that only you will know the truth. And now with CEREC®, we can complete same-day inlays & onlays, avoiding the need for patients to come back 2-3 weeks later once their permanent crown is made by a dental lab.

Porcelain Cosmetic Veneers

Veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns & can perfect your smile by masking stains, hiding chips, correcting misalignment & creating uniformity. Veneers, which are made of thin, customized material designed to slide over the teeth, look incredibly natural, are long lasting & are relatively easy to apply.

Our doctors have completed extensive training in smile design – the art of creating custom smiles specific to each patient. We use these skills every day, not only for smile makeovers, but also for restoring one or two teeth so that they blend seamlessly with existing natural teeth. Call us today to set up a consultation, or to schedule a time to stop in and see photos of our cases!

Invisalign® Teen

Straight teeth can do a lot for a teenager’s self-confidence, but many are embarrassed by traditional metal braces. With Invisalign® Teen, they can get a perfect smile using nearly invisible aligners. As the teeth shift into place, we’ll craft new aligners, and we’ll even make getting replacements easier, since we know teens tend to be accident-prone. These aligners will also feature wear-indicator buttons, so the doctor and the patient can be certain a schedule is being properly adhered to.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is the revolutionary way to help you get even, straight teeth without noticeable, painful metal braces. Virtually undetectable, Invisalign® aligners are made of strong, clear plastic that gradually guide your teeth into perfect alignment. Unlike metal braces, they have no wires or brackets. Tooth impressions are made, from which Invisalign® develops customized aligners that will slide directly over your teeth. Aligners are typically worn full-time (except when eating or drinking) for 6-48 months—no longer than you would wear traditional metal braces. Aligners are replaced every two weeks as your teeth shift into place.

Bonding

A smile can be dulled by stained, chipped, cracked or misaligned teeth, but bonding can quickly & painlessly restore your smile’s natural beauty. During the bonding procedure, a thin coating of plastic or resin is painted over the damaged teeth, strengthening them & making them virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

ZOOM!® Teeth Whitening

Professional Breath Control

Bad breath (halitosis) is not only embarrassing, but it may also be a sign of a medical problem. Its most common causes include dry mouth, consumption of pungent foods, insufficient tooth maintenance (such as infrequent brushing or flossing) & periodontal disease. If you suffer from chronic bad breath, we can help. We offer a full range of BreathRX® professional mouth care products to help take care of bad breath.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dentures are held securely to increase speaking & chewing ability. They attach a customized denture to individual implants or a row of implants, securing the denture in place. They look completely natural, are long-lasting, & are quite durable.

We have completed many implant-supported denture cases. Call us today to set up a time to see some of our work!

Endodontic Therapy

With advanced & surprisingly comfortable endodontic therapy, you have an alternative to tooth removal, which will allow you to retain full use of your natural teeth. Endodontic therapy involves the removal of tissue from inside the tooth that has been damaged by trauma or infected by decay. After the pulp is removed, the pulp chamber & root canal system is cleaned, disinfected & sealed. Once a root canal is completed, the tooth will require a filling or crown, which may be completed at the same visit or up to a few weeks later.

Mercury-Free Dentistry

We understand your concerns regarding the use of mercury fillings. Accordingly, at our office we have elected to only use new advanced fillings made of tooth-colored materials that contain no metals or mercury. We made this choice several years ago, making us very proficient with the techniques required to place tooth-colored fillings. It’s just one more way that we show our care for you. Your safety & aesthetics are our primary concerns!

State of the Art Antiseptic Procedures

Our sterilization procedures meet the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. We heat-sterilize all handpieces & instruments after each use. We use disposable gloves, masks, eye protection & barrier covers at all times. Our patients’ safety is our top priority.
